Understanding AFSA Assessments

Overview

The AFSA section within Assessment Manager provides a central register of all Aquatic Facility Safety Assessments (AFSA) that have been completed for your facility or organisation by Drowning Prevention Australia or Royal Life Saving

Unlike self-assessments completed within the Assessment section of Assessment Manager, AFSA Assessments are independent external assessments undertaken by qualified Drowning Prevention Australia consultants. These assessments provide an objective review of your aquatic facility against recognised industry standards and best practice.

The AFSA register allows authorised users to access completed assessments at any time, making it easy to review previous findings, share reports with stakeholders and monitor recommendations from external assessments.

What Information is Available?

The AFSA register includes:

  • Assessment Title

  • Assessment Date

  • Facility Name

  • Assessment Status

  • Link to the Assessment Report

  • URL to View the Assessment Online

Each completed assessment is stored within the register, providing a historical record of independent assessments undertaken for your facility.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open the AFSA Section

From the main navigation menu, select AFSA.

This will open the AFSA register and display all completed Aquatic Facility Safety Assessments that are available for your organisation or aquatic facility.

Step 2: Review the Assessment Register

The register provides a list of completed assessments together with key information about each assessment.

Review the assessment title, assessment date and facility details to locate the assessment that you would like to view.

Step 3: Open the Assessment Report

Select the assessment you wish to review.

Each AFSA Assessment includes a comprehensive written report prepared by the Drowning Prevention Australia assessor, outlining observations, findings and opportunities for improvement identified during the assessment.

Step 4: View the Online Assessment

Each completed AFSA Assessment also includes a URL that can be opened directly from Assessment Manager.

The online version of the assessment allows users to quickly access the report without searching through emails or downloaded documents and provides a convenient way to share the assessment with other authorised stakeholders.

Step 5: Use the Assessment to Support Improvement

AFSA Assessments provide valuable independent insights into your facility's operations.

Review the findings and recommendations within the report and consider how they may be incorporated into future planning, operational reviews and continuous improvement activities.

Many organisations also use AFSA Assessments to support governance reporting, strategic planning and discussions with facility management teams.

Tips and Best Practice

AFSA Assessments provide an independent perspective on your facility and should be reviewed alongside your internal assessments within Assessment Manager.

After receiving an AFSA Assessment, consider reviewing the corresponding assessment type within the Assess section of Assessment Manager. Updating maturity ratings and supporting evidence following an external assessment helps ensure that your self-assessment continues to accurately reflect the current maturity of your facility.

Maintain previous AFSA reports within the register, as they provide a valuable historical record of your facility's improvement journey and demonstrate your commitment to continuous improvement over time.
