Understanding the Improvement Actions Register
Overview
The Improvement Actions Register is the central location for managing every improvement action created within Assessment Manager. It provides a complete list of improvement activities across your organisation, allowing managers and leadership teams to monitor progress, update actions and ensure opportunities for improvement are being effectively managed.
While the Improvement Plan Dashboard provides a high-level summary of improvement activity, the Actions Register contains the detailed information for every individual action. It is where new actions are created, existing actions are updated and completed actions are recorded.
The register supports a structured approach to continuous improvement by ensuring that every action has clear ownership, appropriate priority and defined timeframes for completion.
What Information is Available?
Each Improvement Action within the register includes:
Action
Responsibility
Priority
Status
Start Date
Due Date
Assessment Section (Optional)
Module (Optional)
Together, these fields provide a comprehensive record of each improvement activity and help organisations effectively monitor progress from creation through to completion.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open the Actions Register
From the Improve menu, select Improvement Plan, then open the Actions Register tab.
The register displays every improvement action that has been created within your organisation, regardless of whether it was created manually or directly from an assessment question.
Step 2: Review Your Improvement Actions
Review the list of actions to understand the current improvement activities being undertaken across your organisation.
The register provides a complete overview of each action, including who is responsible, the current priority, action status and key dates. This information helps managers quickly identify activities that are progressing well and those that may require follow-up.
Step 3: Open an Improvement Action
Select the action you wish to review or update.
This allows you to view the complete details of the action, update information as work progresses and ensure the action remains current and accurate.
Step 4: Update Action Details
As improvement activities progress, update the action as required.
This may include changing the responsible person, adjusting the priority, updating the status or revising target dates to reflect changing operational priorities or project timelines.
Maintaining accurate information ensures the Improvement Plan Dashboard continues to provide meaningful management information.
Step 5: Review Linked Assessment Information
Where an action has been linked to an Assessment Section and Module, review this information to understand why the action was created.
Actions created directly from an assessment question will automatically include the relevant Assessment Section and Module, providing valuable context and strengthening the connection between assessments and continuous improvement.
Step 6: Monitor Outstanding Actions
Regularly review actions that remain in progress or are approaching their due date.
Early identification of actions requiring additional support helps maintain momentum and reduces the likelihood of actions becoming overdue.
Step 7: Complete Improvement Actions
Once an improvement activity has been successfully implemented, update the action status to indicate that it has been completed.
Completed actions remain within the register as a permanent record of organisational improvement and contribute to demonstrating your ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.
Tips and Best Practice
Use the Actions Register as your primary tool for managing operational improvement activities. Regular updates ensure managers and leadership teams always have an accurate understanding of current progress.
Where possible, create actions directly from assessment questions. This automatically links actions to the relevant Assessment Section and Module, making it much easier to understand the reason behind each improvement activity.
Review the register regularly rather than waiting for formal reporting periods. Frequent reviews help identify overdue actions early and ensure improvement activities remain aligned with organisational priorities.
Avoid leaving completed actions open. Updating action statuses promptly ensures the Improvement Plan Dashboard accurately reflects organisational progress and provides reliable information for decision-making.
